In April, we told you that CenSE was leading investigations into a new MSc in Service Management and Design. Following on from this, we are delighted to announce that CenSE Director, Professor Stephen Osborne, has been given approval to take this degree forward.
CenSE Director given 'green light' to lead creation of new MSc in Service Management and Design

The new degree will launch in September 2022, although some courses for the programme will be piloted as standalone courses before then. Stephen will be supported in the process by Chris Speed, Professor of Design Informatics in the Edinburgh College of Art.

The MSc is an exciting and innovative programme in a number of ways.

First, it will be based within the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI). The EFI is dedicated to developing teaching programmes both in partnership with the public and private sectors, and in a way that addresses the complex and increasingly data-driven nature of modern society.

Second, it will be distinctive in its intention to integrate the themes of service management and service design. Our belief is that you cannot manage services if you do not understand how they have been designed, and you cannot design services if you do not understand how they are to be managed!

Third, the Master's programme will be designed and delivered across a range of distinctive teaching and learning approaches that will allow participants to study wholly on campus, wholly online, or in a hybrid way to suit their own needs.

CenSE will keep everyone advised of the progress of this exciting initiative over the coming months. In the meantime, we need your help. The University is currently conducting market research to assess the shape of the market for the MSc. As part of this, we are conducting a (very brief!) survey. Please take some time to complete this survey for us; it will take no more than 5 minutes to complete, but it is very important.
