Professor Osborne is doing this in collaboration with Professor Chris Speed, Professor of Design Informatics at the Edinburgh College of Art.
Over the past decade, the field of service management and design has evolved tremendously in both the private and public sectors. There are some programmes that look at one or other of these elements (namely service management or service design). However, there is a dearth of programmes that explore these two fields in an integrated fashion. This would be a strength of the Edinburgh programme.
Further, the University of Edinburgh also has a particular strength in the field of Informatics, and the intention would be to include this as a fundamental building block of the programme. This would be a unique and novel element of this new postgraduate taught programme.
The intention would be to offer a programme accessible both to pre-experience and to post-experience students, and which would offer a professional grounding and training in the application of service management and design. The programme would be based within the Edinburgh Futures Institute, as part of its postgraduate portfolio exploring the future of the society and economy.
