Across much of Europe, these bodies are seen as key agents for public service delivery and of social change. In fact, over 60% of social enterprises across Europe has service delivery as their core business.
Professor Osborne spent a week working with new executives in Hungarian social enterprises looking at three issues, all of which have been core to his research and engagement work over the past decade and more. These were:
- The nature of ‘value’ that social enterprises can contribute to public services and to society in Hungary
- The complex processes of ‘co-production’ in public service delivery and how these processes can contribute to creating, or destroying such value
- The inter-relationships between co-production and social innovation in the co-creation of value with citizens
Professor Osborne is to return to Budapest in 2017 to continue this work further.
