CenSE is committed to developing service management as a core feature of the teaching and learning environment in the Business School. As a first step in this process it is developing new new electives in Service Management – one to be intended for taught postgraduates on the Masters programmes in the School and one intended for or the MBA programme.
These new postgraduate courses will be available from the autumn of 2016 and will mix cutting edge theory and research together with a focus on the actual practice of management in the service sector. They will explore such issues as the nature of the service process and its implications for management, value co-creation in services delivery, operational and strategic management, the marketing of services and the implications of ICT and digital technology for service management.
Linked to these courses the School is shortly to advertise for a new Early Career Fellow in Service Management. This new appointment will provide the teaching and leadership for these two new electives as well as contributing to the research agenda of CenSE.
Following on from these new courses, CenSE will be spearheading the approval of a new MSc in Service Management to be launched in September 2018. This will provide a professional qualification for staff either working in, or wanting to work in, the service sector. The School believes that this is an essential role for a twenty first century Business School as service is increasingly becoming the defining factor of thriving and resilient economies around the world.
Further developments being explored include a MPA to be designed jointly between CenSE and the Academy of Government in the University.
CenSE is also working with the Executive Education initiative in the School to develop bespoke Masterclasses in Service Management for service businesses working in both the public and private sectors.
